POP-UP.JAN – Basic to Unique Techniques Painting With Encaustic Wax
ONE-DAY POP-UP ENCAUSTIC WORKSHOP IN DECATUR: BASIC TO UNIQUE TECHNIQUES
January 25, 2015 @ 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm
The primary attribute of encaustic wax painting is its amazing textures. Applying heat, shaping the wax and adding pigment allows the artist to create intriguing dips, valleys and curves that onlookers will love to navigate. Encaustic painting textures are extremely varied and depend on what you want to communicate with your piece. Will it be raised and rough-smooth and glassy? Traditional and monochromatic or jazzy, whimsical and contemporary? The kind of effect you achieve painting with wax will depend greatly on how you “mold” the piece. An expert eye is sorely needed, especially since you can reach a “point of no return” with encaustic work. Penny will help you build upon your wax painting’s unique narrative with textures that complement its voice.
